Frequently Asked Questions
What is an occupational health assessment?
An occupational health assessment is a confidential, work-focused discussion with an occupational health clinician. It considers how your health may affect your work, and whether workplace adjustments or other support may help. It is not a treatment appointment.
Why has my employer referred me to occupational health?
Your employer has requested advice about a work-related health question. If you would like to know more, you can ask your employer why they made the referral, or ask the clinician what your employer wants advice on during your assessment.
What happens during an occupational health assessment?
The clinician will discuss your health in relation to your work, your role and any difficulties you are experiencing. They may ask about your symptoms, how these affect your work, and what support or adjustments might help. You can raise questions or explain if you are uncomfortable discussing something.
Are assessments conducted online or in person?
We primarily provide secure, confidential video assessments, allowing employees to join from anywhere without travel disruption.
Please join from a quiet, private place with a reliable internet connection. Keep your phone available in case there is a problem with the video call.
How do I join my online occupational health appointment?
We will send your calendar invitation and Microsoft Teams joining instructions before the meeting. Check your inbox and junk folder. If you cannot find the invitation or have difficulty joining, contact us using the details in your appointment email.
Do I need to complete a consent form before my appointment?
Yes. Please complete and return the consent form before your appointment, following the instructions in the email. An electronic, ink or typed signature is acceptable. The form explains the assessment your rights.
Can I refuse or withdraw consent?
You can choose whether to consent to the assessment and to the report being shared with your employer. Please discuss any concerns with the clinician. If you withdraw consent before the report is issued, this may mean the assessment or report cannot proceed as planned, and your employer may not receive occupational health advice. The clinician can explain the possible implications of this.
What conditions do you advise on?
We evaluate a wide range of workplace health concerns, including musculoskeletal issues, heart conditions, stress, anxiety, burnout, mental health conditions, stroke, cancer, menopause, neurodiversity, and recovery from surgery or long-term illness.
Will you be able to see my medical records?
We do not have routine access to your GP or NHS medical records. If information from another healthcare professional would help with the assessment, we will explain what is being requested and discuss consent with you first. You can ask questions about the request before deciding.
Who will see my occupational health report?
The report is prepared for the purpose explained in your referral. It is shared with your employer in line with the consent and report-release arrangements you agree to. Your employer receives occupational health advice relevant to the referral, rather than access to all of the information shared in the assessment.
